Upcoming Pow Wows, Must Read Native Authors, Native Home Decor and more on PowWows.com

Did you get to watch any of the Seminole Tribal Fair and Pow Wow live this past weekend?

Because whew… that was something special.

If you caught even a few minutes, you know the energy was unreal. And if you missed it, do yourself a favor and watch the Smoke Dance Special (it was incredible)!

And here’s the full weekend replay so you can binge it like a series:

Also, I just published a new interview with Lisa Meeches and Denae Robinson about the new season of TAKEN, and it’s a must-watch. They talk about how the series is spotlighting the stories behind MMIW and why that visibility matters so much.

And over in The Circle (our new community space), we’ve got a fun conversation going that has people fired up:

What’s one food you cannot understand why people enjoy?

So what’s YOUR answer? What’s one food you’re like, “Nope. I don’t get it.”

One more thing… we just started our latest adventure. We were already planning a trip, but thanks to Kelli finding a last-minute deal, we stretched it into a full 15-day run. 😄

Follow our travels!

Thanks!

Celebrating Indigenous Stories: Must-Read Books by Native Authors

As we honor Native American Heritage, there’s no better way to connect with culture and history than through stories told by Indigenous voices. From beautifully illustrated picture books to powerful young adult reads, these works capture the strength, spirit, and creativity of Native storytellers.

How to Respectfully Decorate with Native American Décor

Native-inspired home décor has been consistently featured in design magazines, people’s Pinterest boards, and boutique shops around the country. It’s easy to see why: the textures are rich, the patterns striking, and the craftsmanship undeniably beautiful. But before adding these pieces to your home, it’s worth pausing to ask where they come from and what they mean.

True Native American décor often reflects centuries of tradition, storytelling, and deep cultural significance. A blanket might represent a specific tribe’s history. A rug could be tied to a ceremony or land. When we include pieces like these in our homes, we need to remember that we’re interacting with someone else’s culture, not just picking out something stylish.

The Circle Spotlight

I and a partner do kids crafts every year at the White Eagle multicultural pow wow here in Des Moines, Iowa and we are looking for inexpensive supplies we can use. Most of the kids who come to the craft tables are below age 10. Any ideas on items we can find that would help us sneak in a little indigenous culture while being very for little ki...

This gourd turtle is a reminder of origins, I use it to hold small items once owned by my ancestors that I now use in my own craftwork; a pocket knife, lighter, measuring tape, sewing scissors. Turtle needs to be embellished with some beads, but I am still waiting for inspiration.
