Upcoming Pow Wows, Upcoming Giveaways, and more on PowWows.com

Reader I hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day, and I hope you took a minute to remember all of those who have fought for us.
It’s always good to pause for a moment and remember what Memorial Day is really about.
Kelli and I had a nice, relaxing weekend. We went down to Pawleys Island with some friends and unplugged as much as I could.
And when I say unplugged, I mean I really unplugged.
I actually lost my streak of logging into The Circle, our community here at PowWows.com. I had gone 160 days of logging in and interacting every single day, but this weekend I missed it.
And it was kind of nice to be really uplugged. I actually build a Lego set! I haven't done that in years. It was good to not be on a screen for alittle while.
I still had to do a little work and help out with the live stream we had this weekend, but for the most part, I was pretty unplugged. And it felt good.
Now I’m back at my desk and ready for a big week.
And we have some big things coming up next month.
We’re getting ready to kick off the celebration of the 30th anniversary of PowWows.com!
We’re going to celebrate all summer long with giveaways, special surprises, and a few fun things I’m still working on behind the scenes.
This won’t be one big giveaway and then it’s over.
Instead, we’re going to do lots of different giveaways, lots of different prizes, and lots of different ways to win. Some giveaways may last a week. Some may last a month. We’re going to keep it going through June, July, and August, and I’m going to do my best to make it as fun as possible.
A powwow is a beautiful and inspiring event filled with color, movement and energy, so how can you best capture it on camera?
If you plan on taking your camera to the powwow and snapping photos of the beauty of the event, it’s important to be prepared and have the right approach and strategy. With a little bit of preparation and know-how, you can get some beautiful images that represent the unique native culture on display.
Here are some tips that you can keep in mind for getting better photos at your next powwow event
🔴 This Week in Native History — Because the Story Doesn't End Here
Here’s one I wish more people knew.
Before NASA was sending astronauts toward the moon, a Cherokee mathematician named Mary Golda Ross was helping figure out what space travel could even look like.
Ross was one of the first engineers in Lockheed’s top-secret Skunk Works program, the same group known for some of the most advanced aircraft and aerospace projects of the 20th century.
And her work went far beyond airplanes.
She helped develop early ideas for satellites, spaceflight, and interplanetary travel. She even contributed to a NASA handbook that mapped out the math for future missions to Venus and Mars.
Think about that for a second.
A Cherokee woman from Oklahoma was doing the calculations that helped shape America’s earliest dreams of traveling through space.
That’s the kind of history that deserves more than a footnote.

We're uploading videos from the 2026 Gathering of Nations, and they are a ton!
Here's the cool part: this year we streamed using Ecamm, and they just rolled out a feature that records your stream in vertical and horizontal format simultaneously. That means every video is already ready to go for YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and Reels — no extra editing, no reformatting. Just great content in the format you actually want to watch.
On top of that, our photographer Fulgens joined us on the ground shooting vertical video on his camera and phone, and so did I.
We're talking hundreds of vertical videos heading to our YouTube, Facebook, and TikTok in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.
If you're doing any kind of live streaming or video production, Ecamm is the real deal — I've been using it for years. Get 15% off at ecamm.com/powwows.

Every great story deserves a good discussion around the fire.
That's what The Circle is, a gathering place for everyone who wants more than a weekly read. A place to ask questions, share photos, trade stories, and connect with people who show up for the same reasons you do.
No noise. No algorithm. Just the community you've been looking for.
The Circle is open. Pull up a seat.
And this week’s conversation starter is a fun one:
What movie villain was actually right?
Come jump into the conversation, see what everybody else is saying, and add your pick too. I always love seeing where these discussions go.
