Upcoming Pow Wows, Pendleton Blanket Giveaway, and more on PowWows.com

Hey Reader,

South Carolina is finally starting to feel like spring, and I am not mad about it one bit. We’ve had a stretch of beautiful 70-degree days, and this past weekend was just about perfect. I got to spend some time catching up with old friends from my camp staff days, sitting around a fire, enjoying the weather, and just slowing down for a little bit.

Now it’s time to shift gears, because this weekend we head to Rock Hill, South Carolina, for the Catawba Pow Wow, and I’m really excited to be back at this one.

And it’s only a couple of hours from home. Over the next couple of days, I’ll be spinning up all the cameras, testing equipment, making sure everything is working like it should, and getting everything packed and ready to roll on Friday afternoon. We’ll get to see a lot of friends, catch up with folks we haven’t seen in a while, and share what should be an incredible weekend of singing, dancing, and community.

Our Countdown to Gathering of Nations giveaway is also rolling right along. If you haven’t entered yet, make sure you do that and come back daily for more chances to win a Pendleton blanket.

Reader have you entered?

And as we keep counting down, remember this is your chance to experience Gathering of Nations if it has ever been on your bucket list. Don’t miss your chance to be part of the nation’s largest powwow.

And over in The Circle, our community platform, we’re having a lot of fun with this week’s conversation.

What’s a saying or movie quote you still use in everyday life?

Some of the answers have been hilarious, and it’s been so much fun seeing what everyone remembers and still says.

Reader Come join us and jump into the conversation.

New Book Release

Did you know we have a Native American Book Club?

Our friends at Penguin Random House has released a new book you should check out!

A joyful exploration of a child’s loving relationship with the land that supports and nurtures her as she grows

You Are the Land is a vivid ode to belonging within a family, within a community, and within the natural world.

From the day she’s born, a child feels the love and power that come with being part of something bigger. She’s a new spring leaf, alive and growing, as strong as the ancient cedars and as radiant as the glittering night sky. She is one with the amazing forces of nature that surround and nurture her, and that she nurtures in return.

Through inspiring words and sweeping illustrations, renowned artist Steph Littlebird’s stunning debut celebrates our connection to the land and shows how we perfectly mirror its beauty and resilience.

Friday night movie. I'm watching Incident at Oglala on Prime. I didn't know that John Trudell lost his 3 children, wife, and mother-in-law 😞 So many native lives lost. Sad time in history.
