Hey Reader,
Things have finally settled down here in Lexington.
The weather is back to normal and, good news, no earthquakes this week. It’s amazing what starts to feel “normal” after a weird stretch like that.
I even got out Sunday morning and played a full round of disc golf, which felt like a little victory.
Have you ever tried it? If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s honestly a great sport and a fun excuse to get outside.
On the PowWows.com side, this past weekend was a good one. We worked with the Winnebago Tribe to stream the Last Bear Moon Pow Wow, and for a one day event, it brought it. Incredible singing, great dancing, and just a really solid day from start to finish.
March is packed with Pow Wows on our calendar, and April is full too.
If you haven’t checked the Pow Wow Calendar lately, go take a look because we’ve been adding a ton of updates as events roll in.
And if you want the easiest way to keep everything handy, the March edition of our Pow Wow Calendar Book is ready. You can download the full 12 months and keep it on your laptop or phone so it’s always right there when you’re planning your next trip.
Coming up this weekend, our live streaming team, Michael and Delores, are heading to the Apache Gold Casino Powwow. We’ll be live Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and this one is going to be a great one, so don’t miss it.
One more thing before you scroll on Reader. We’re kicking off a brand new giveaway and promotion this week, and it’s being sponsored by Pendleton. We’ve been working on this behind the scenes and I’m hoping to launch it later today or tomorrow. Keep an eye on your inbox and the website because we’ll announce it as soon as it goes live.
Also, over in The Circle, we’ve got a fun giveaway happening for crafters and artists. We’re giving away one yard of Teton trade cloth wool to the person whose craft project gets the most likes.
So come post a photo of your latest project (or what you’re working on right now), tell us about it, and then take a look around and show some love to what everyone else is making too. I can’t wait to see what y’all have been working on.
This episode features a powerful conversation with the organizers of the Weaving Unity Southeastern MMIW Informational Pow Wow in Lexington, South Carolina. We talk about the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) crisis and why this issue matters deeply here in South Carolina and across the Southeast. The organizers share why they created this event, what they hope the community takes away, and how powwows and gatherings like this can help bring awareness, education, healing, and unity.
This is an important conversation about protecting Native women, honoring families and loved ones, and making sure these stories are seen and heard.

A joyful exploration of a child’s loving relationship with the land that supports and nurtures her as she grows You Are the Land is a vivid ode to belonging within a family, within a community, and within the natural world. From the day she’s born, a child feels the love and power that come with being part of something bigger. She’s a new spring leaf, alive and growing, as strong as the ancient cedars and as radiant as the glittering night sky. She is one with the amazing forces of nature that surround and nurture her, and that she nurtures in return. Through inspiring words and sweeping illustrations, renowned artist Steph Littlebird’s stunning debut celebrates our connection to the land and shows how we perfectly mirror its beauty and resilience.
Burgandi Trejo Phoenix is a stage actor, voiceover actor, voice actor, dancer, writer, and singer. She began dancing ballet at just two and a half years old and started singing in the choir at age five. From an early age, performance was part of her world.
Growing up, Burgandi was captivated by television. She admired icons like Carol Burnett, Audrey Hepburn, and Elizabeth Taylor. Watching their performances sparked something in her. At a young age, Burgandi knew what she wanted to do with her life — act, perform, and make people laugh.
Through them, she also learned that making people laugh is deeply connected to culture and history, and that it is something truly needed.
