You’re Not Ready for What’s Happening on PowWows.com This Week

Hope you made it through the storm and all the winter weather this weekend okay. We got lucky on our end, just a little ice and a few road closures, but no power issues and nothing that turned into a big mess. After watching what some areas dealt with, I’m definitely grateful.

How did you do where you are?

Pow wow season is already rolling, and we’ve got a fun weekend coming up. We’ll be streaming from two different locations, the Seminole Tribal Fair in Hollywood, Florida, and the Big Mac Memorial Round Dance up in Shakopee, Minnesota. Two very different vibes, both going to be incredible. If you don’t want to miss any of the dancing and singing, make sure you’re bookmarked!

And if you haven’t popped into our new community yet, come hang out with us in The Circle.

It’s free, and the conversations have been really fun lately. The kind of stuff that makes you smile while you’re scrolling, like “what’s one food you can’t stand that everyone else seems to love” alongside Native books, winter weather check-ins, crafts, tips, and Native languages.

If that sounds like your kind of place, join our community - The Circle.

Quick personal update too: between travel and getting a little sick over the holidays, I got behind, and it honestly feels like last week was my real start to 2026.

I’ve been knocking out projects and getting my energy back, and part of that is finally pushing a few things we’ve had sitting ready to go.

One of them is a sale in the shop, because I hadn’t been promoting it much when I didn’t have the time or energy to keep up with shipping.

Right now you can grab items up to 30% off, plus some 2026 pow wow season merch, and a few favorites like a blanket, candles, sage, and cedar.

We also kicked off a new giveaway to start 2026… just a few weeks late, but we’re here now. You can enter daily.

We’ve got some great gear from Pendleton, including travel bags that are perfect for getting ready for that first powwow of the season, because let’s be real, having your stuff packed and organized in a good bag makes the whole trip feel better before you even leave the house.

The links below really do matter, reading and sharing these articles helps keep Powwows.com going, so thank you for clicking.

And I’m especially excited about the two featured pieces this week. I finally got to share my review of the new movie Mercy after seeing an early screening, and if you’re into smart thrillers with some really interesting storytelling choices, I think you’ll be into it. It stars Kali Reis, the Wampanoag boxer, and you can also watch my interview with her now too. Those are both below, and I’d love to know what you think after you check them out.

Thanks!

Kali Reis Interview: Wampanoag Champion Boxer Talks Mercy, Acting, and Representation

I just got to interview Kali Reis for a quick interview in conjunction with the release of the new movie Mercy.

If you don’t know Kali yet, she’s the real deal, a Wampanoag champion boxer who’s also building a name for herself on screen.

We’ve actually featured her before, and I love how full-circle it felt to talk again, this time with a movie release in the mix.

Mercy Review: A Smart Tech Thriller That Questions AI and Justice

No major spoilers here, I promise, so you’re safe to keep reading.

I got to see an early screening of Mercy before it’s released, in preparation for my interview with Kali Reis.

What grabbed me right away was the storytelling style. A lot of the movie is told through files, camera footage, recordings, and you’re piecing together what happened as you go. They mix that with real-time pressure and action still happening in the moment, so it feels like you’re investigating it while the clock is ticking.
