I’m really excited about 2026. It’s already shaping up to be a fun year, and I’m grateful you’re here to start it with me.
Thank you for all the support over the years. I still can’t believe PowWows.com is celebrating 30 years.
This summer, I’ll be building toward our 30th anniversary celebration, and I’d love for you to follow along. We’re highlighting 30 Native brands for our 30 years, and we already have six amazing brands confirmed. You can read more about what I’m planning here and keep up with the updates by joining the waitlist for the celebration giveaway.
We’re also kicking off the year with our first Pow Wow live stream of 2026. I’ll be streaming the Pechanga Pow Wow in California this weekend. You can always check the full live stream schedule!
On a personal note, my next trip is coming up too. I’ll be heading to Orlando for Podfest, where I’m speaking about growing your podcast. If you want to follow along with our travels and behind-the-scenes moments, you can follow my personal profile.
When I started this site, it was never meant to be what it is today.
It began as a way for me to learn and play with HTML while I was in college. I never imagined anyone else would read it. It wasn’t a business plan or a big idea, just something to work on between classes.
And then more people showed up. Conversations started. The community grew. What began as a small personal project slowly turned into something much bigger than I ever expected.
Because of that, I knew I didn’t want this anniversary to be just a logo or a single post.
I’m working on our biggest celebration ever.
This summer, June, July, and August, we’ll be celebrating 30 years of PowWows.com in a big way.
If you’ve ever talked about pow wows with friends, there’s a good chance someone eventually says, “One day I want to go to Gathering of Nations.”
The Gathering of Nations in Albuquerque has become one of those bucket-list events because it’s not just one pow wow weekend. It’s a full-on cultural experience: grand entries that give you goosebumps, drum groups that shake the building, dancers in stunning regalia, amazing food, and a Trader’s Market that you can get happily lost in for hours.
I and a partner do kids crafts every year at the White Eagle multicultural pow wow here in Des Moines, Iowa and we are looking for inexpensive supplies we can use. Most of the kids who come to the craft tables are below age 10. Any ideas on items we can find that would help us sneak in a little indigenous culture while being very for little ki...
This gourd turtle is a reminder of origins, I use it to hold small items once owned by my ancestors that I now use in my own craftwork; a pocket knife, lighter, measuring tape, sewing scissors. Turtle needs to be embellished with some beads, but I am still waiting for inspiration.
Check out this amazing bead work! https://www.thisiscolossal.com/2025/10/renee-condo-bead-sculptures/?utm_source=colossalnews&utm_medium=email&utm_term=Fri+Oct+31+2025&utm_campaign=Guided+by+the+Whistles
Each week, I like to pause for a few minutes and look back at moments in Native history that connect to the days we are living right now. Some of these stories are heavy. Some are inspiring. All of them matter. Looking at history this way helps us understand why things are the way they are today, why trust has been broken in so many places, and...
