Weβre back home after spending a week in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and wow, what an incredible place!
Itβs one of those towns thatβs just made for walking. Every corner has a great shop, a local restaurant, or something interesting to see. Definitely a spot worth spending a full week just exploring and soaking it all in.
We even took a day trip over to Salem to see the town in full spooky-season mode, and they go all out! π Over 100 street vendors, performers, and tons of Halloween decorations everywhere you look.

My wife Kelli and I recently took part in a tour of local artisans and farms during June, called the Ag + Art Tour. The tour took place over several weekends in different South Carolina counties.
β
Outside the Center, across the street, is a Native American inspired garden. For the tour the garden was planted with special crops β Three Sisters Garden (Corn, Beans, and Squash) and The Medicine Wheel Garden (Plants and Herbs that cure different ailments).
The Three Sisters is a Native American legend that refers to corn, beans and squash. These beautiful sisters are the βsustainersβ of life. They grow together in the same mound each one protecting the others. The corn stands tall so that the beans have a pole to climb. The beans help keep the soil fertile with nitrogen and keep the corn from falling over when itβs windy. Shallow-rooted squash vines act as a living mulch, keeping weeds from invading and protecting the soilsβ moisture. Spiny squash plants also help discourage predators from approaching the corn and
Ever wondered where you can experience and learn more about Native culture while you are traveling?
I'm not talking about visiting a museum, which, by the way, we have an excellent guide on Native American museums to satiate your historical curiosities. But now, let's focus on unearthing the spectacular Native American sites sprinkled across our nation, places that are teeming with history, culture, and a little bit of mystery.
Hidden among North America's vast, rugged landscapes lie thousands of sites with a unique story of the continent's original inhabitants: the Native Americans. Whether towering mesas, ancient cliff dwellings, or petroglyphs etched into canyon walls, each site offers a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the indigenous people who once called the land their own.
If youβre anywhere near Oklahoma this month, youβll definitely want to make plans to visit the Choctaw Cultural Center for their Choctaw Heritage Festival!
This special event celebrates Choctaw history, culture, and traditions with hands-on activities, live demonstrations, stickball, social dancing, and storytelling. Youβll also find delicious traditional foods and the chance to connect with artists and community members sharing their crafts and knowledge.
Itβs one of the best times to experience Choctaw culture in person β whether youβre local or looking for a weekend road trip.
