Still missing after 11 years + Upcoming Pow Wows

Hey Reader,

I hope your fall is off to a good start. Mine's going fine, except my college football team has already tanked. Hope yours is holding up better than mine.

This past weekend we streamed live from two powwows, and we're going live again this weekend from Morongo in California. It's one of my favorite powwows of the year, and I really wish I could be there. But I'm heading to New Hampshire for a conference, so Michael and Ryan are heading out to make sure you're covered and can watch every minute.

We've also been busy updating the calendar. We've added a lot of new powwows, and there's so much happening this fall. Scroll down and check them out so you don't miss any.

And don't miss the story below about Danita Goodwill's stolen beadwork. You all showed up for that one in a big way.

Thanks, as always, for being part of this with us.

Eleven Years Later, You Still Care

Back at the 2015 Gathering of Nations, Southern Buckskin dancer Danita Goodwill (Osage, from Grayhorse, Oklahoma) woke up to smashed car windows and her beadwork gone. Her crown, earrings, choker, backdrop, necklaces. Hundreds of hours of handmade work that carried her family's story.

Last week we shared her story again on Facebook, and it took off. In just five days: 17,000+ reactions, 1,300+ comments, and 8,700+ shares.

That tells me something about this community. More than a decade later, people haven't forgotten. You're still asking the same question: was it ever found?

As far as we know, it hasn't been. But Danita and her family rebuilt, and she's kept winning, including 1st place at the 2022 Gathering of Nations. The full story and latest update are on the site, along with photos of the missing pieces so you can keep an eye out.

Pendleton Fire Legend Coasters - 4 Piece Set
$10.00 USD $13.50 USD
Fire Bringers are heroes, from Prometheus in classical Greece, to Manabozho, the Chippewa trickster. Manabozho journeyed to the home of an old man who hoarded fire, and changed himself into a small, shivering rabbit. The man’s daughters set him by the hearth, where he caught a spark on his fur and raced back to his people before it went out. This pattern shows combs and shawls warming by a hearth to celebrate the gift of fire. Design © Pendleton Woolen Mills, Inc. Made in the USA. CoasterRug dimensions - approximate finished size: 3.5" x 5.5" (including fringe) and .16" thick.
