Let's Celebrate Native American Heritage Month and more on PowWows.com
Published 2 days ago • 10 min read
It’s one of our favorite times of the year, and we’ve got so much happening all month long!
First up, the Explore Native Challenge is in full swing! Every day, you’ll get the chance to dig deeper into Native culture, history, and art while earning entries toward some amazing prizes, including three Eighth Generation blankets. It’s fun, educational, and a great way to celebrate all month long.
We’ve also just launched something brand new, The Circle, our own online community! It’s a free space away from social media where you can connect with others, talk Pow Wows, share stories, join groups like our Book Club or Craft Corner, and be part of a positive, welcoming community.
And this weekend, we’re keeping the celebration going with two Pow Wow live streams! Tune in at PowWows.com/live to watch all the dancing, singing, and amazing regalia from wherever you are.
Kelli and I just got back from an incredible weekend at the Choctaw Heritage Festival and Pow Wow — we had such a great time experiencing the culture, food, and hospitality. You can see a peek at our weekend here: Facebook post.
And no slowing down, I’m heading to Boston on Wednesday for a conference, but I’ll still be checking in from the road.
It’s going to be a big month full of celebration, connection, and culture. Thanks for being part of it with us!
This is a time to honor and recognize the rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and contributions of Native Americans to our society. It's a chance to learn, celebrate, and show our respect. And you don’t have to be Native to celebrate! You can participate in numerous ways and make this month meaningful, regardless of your heritage.
Over in The Circle+ we are talking about the events that happened this week in Native history including St. Clair's Defeat, Deb Haaland being elected to Congress, Battle of Tippecanoe and more!

The history of the United States of America is full of stories and facts from a wide diversity of cultures and peoples, but its foundations were built far before anyone attempted to make this part of North America a cohesive country. The Native American people lived across the land for thousands of years before others appeared on the shores, though their history and importance are sometimes brushed over in standard education.
Too many stereotypes and misconceptions exist about the American Indians who live across the land. Today, many people still do not understand who these people are, how they contributed to the history and their role in today’s world.
Native American Heritage Month invites all of us to learn, explore, and experience the amazing history, culture, and diversity of the tribes and individuals who were here from the beginning and still live here today. Also, Native American Heritage Month gives the tribal people from all nations the opportunity to celebrate their cultures and share them with others.
For those who revere Native American culture, The Lakota Way 2026 Wall Calendar features contemporary and traditional artwork by Lakota and Iroquois artist Jim Yellowhawk. Along with vibrant art, each month includes history and wisdom from Joseph M. Marshall III, a Native American Indian teacher, historian, Lakota craftsman, and author.
November is Native American Heritage Month, or as it's also known, American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month. This month marks one of the best opportunities to celebrate the past, present, and future of indigenous peoples in North America.
Like similar awareness days, weeks, and months that span the calendar, Native American Heritage month seeks to shed light on something that maybe doesn’t get the attention it ought to the rest of the year.
After all, far too many misconceptions still exist about American Indians. Many people still don’t understand who they really are, how they shaped the history of our continent, and why many Native Americans still don’t feel seen or heard today.
