Annie Mae Aquash: Activist or Controversial Figure, Tokala Black Elk From NBC's Reba McIntire New Show and more on PowWows.com

🎄✨ What are your plans for the holidays?

Are you traveling to see family?
🛫 Taking a vacation? 🏖️
Or staying cozy at home? 🏠❄️

This year, our daughter works in the Disney theme parks 🌟, so she’ll be working on Christmas 🎅. We’re heading to Florida 🌴☀️ to spend time with her between shifts. It’s a bit of a different holiday for us, but we’re grateful we’ll still be together ❤️🎁.

No matter how you celebrate, I hope your holidays are filled with love and family! 🎁💖✨

Thanks,

Paul G

Tokala Black Elk from NBC’s New show – Happy’s Place staring Reba McIntire

I recently had the privilege of interviewing Tokala Black Elk, one of the talented stars of the new show Happy's Place. Tokala’s incredible journey as an actor and storyteller is rooted in his Lakota heritage, and it was amazing to hear how his cultural background influences his work and brings depth to his character on the show.

In our conversation, we talked about how he got involved with Happy's Place, his experiences on set, and what makes this show so unique. Tokala also shared some personal insights into his creative process and what fans can look forward to in this heartwarming series. I’m excited to share his story with you!

Annie Mae Aquash: Celebrated Activist or Controversial Figure in Native American History?

The Hulu documentary, Vow of Silence: The Assassination of Annie Mae Aquash (produced by Amy Kaufman, Caroline Waterloo, Ezra Edelman and Riva Marker.) tells the story of a Mi’Kmaq warrior woman, whose unsolved murder sparked a 30 year investigation.

The tumultuous political climate of the 70’s, along with the complex history of the American Indian Movement, served as the backdrop for a very complex story. She was a warrior who went against giants like the U.S. Government, machismo norms within the American Indian Movement, and the expectations of women in society in the 70’s.

Kindra Swafford

For Kindra Swafford (Cherokee Nation), art has been a part of their life since they were a child. Finding solace in doodling as a kid, they found support and guidance from their teachers in Salina, OK. Later pursuing their BFA at Northeastern State University, Kindra has made their way in the art world, refining their voice and finding joy in the process. Embracing art early, Kindra found inspiration from pop culture- from comics, movies, and video games which you can still see in their work today. Their art is comprised of vivid colors, glitched compositions, and depictions of flora and fauna. They are an active member of Arts Council of Tahlequah, Inkslingers of Tulsa, OVAC, and SEIAA. Kindra hopes to continue their artistic pursuit and share their work with artists and art enthusiasts
